A small tool. One less task. Runs in your browser

Your captions stay in this browser. No upload, account, or subscription needed.

The format is the easy part.

WebVTT is the timed-text format used by HTML video tracks. This converter adds the WEBVTT header and changes SRT’s comma-based millisecond separator to a period. It preserves the cue text and timing so you can move an existing caption file into a compatible web player without uploading your video.

How it works

  1. Paste your SRT captions or choose an .srt file smaller than 500 KB.
  2. Leave VTT selected, then convert and inspect the WEBVTT output.
  3. Download the .vtt file and test it with your destination player.

A few things to know

This converts an existing timed caption file; it does not generate subtitles from plain text or audio. Styling, cue settings, comments, and positioning metadata are removed. A format conversion does not correct wording or synchronize mistimed captions.

Common questions

Is changing the filename enough?

No. WebVTT uses a header and different timestamp syntax. Convert the contents before saving the file with a .vtt extension.

Will this make captions appear on my website?

It creates a VTT file. Your web player must still load that file as a caption track. Test it in the player before publishing.
