FREE SUBTITLE CONVERTER

VTT to TXT. A transcript you can read.

Convert WebVTT captions to plain text in your browser. Remove the VTT header and timing, keep the words, and download TXT without an account.

A small tool. One less task. Runs in your browser

Your captions stay in this browser. No upload, account, or subscription needed.

The format is the easy part.

WebVTT files are designed for timed captions in web players. TXT is useful when you need the words for reading, notes, or source material instead. This tool removes the WEBVTT header, timestamps, cue settings, and markup. NOTE, STYLE, and REGION blocks are skipped; the subtitle text stays in cue order.

How it works

  1. Paste a WebVTT file with a WEBVTT header and timed cues, or choose a .vtt file up to 500 KB.
  2. Keep TXT selected, convert, and review the words in the output preview.
  3. Download the .txt file for notes, search, or a writing draft. Keep the original subtitle file if you still need its timing.

A few things to know

TXT does not retain subtitle timing or styling and cannot replace a timed caption track. This tool does not transcribe audio, translate, summarize, remove repeated speech, or repair caption wording. Review the exported text before sharing it.

Common questions

What happens to WebVTT speaker tags?

Markup such as <v Speaker> is removed. A name remains only when it is part of the actual subtitle text. Add any speaker labels you need after conversion.

Can I upload the TXT result as web captions?

Use WebVTT for an HTML caption track. TXT has no timestamps, so a player cannot synchronize it with the recording. Keep VTT selected when you need timed web captions.
